Treatment for Posture at Body Zest- Banstead
Poor posture isn’t quite as black and white as people often think. The reason for this, is that there are many people with ‘bad posture’, who have absolutely no pain! We therefore, have to consider the impact of each individuals posture on their specific symptoms.
For example: Our Osteopaths treat a lot of neck pain. Osteopaths will always assess the impact of a forward head/slumped forward posture on the neck. This is because you can compress the joints/discs within the neck if it’s too extended. Treatment would then focus on freeing off the neck, but also trying to improve the overall posture.
Another example of a common postural issue is when sitting and working on a laptop. If you do not get yourself set-up well for work, your body begins to adapt to a poor working position. Overtime, this can lead to tension and stiffness building up in areas which you need to move! For example; your upper back, shoulders and hips. This can lead lead to pelvic and lower-back pain, headaches and shoulder injuries.
So, if you have joint/muscle pain, find out if your posture if causing it! If you’ve been told you have bad posture and you want to know if it’s something to worry about, our Osteopaths will give you an honest verdict. It could be that it’s just your shape, and that you don’t need to worry at all.
